ROHS2 - STAGEV

ROHS 2 – Stage V

Focus on the ROHS 2 directive on restriction for the use of dangerous substances and Stage V regulation reducing the pollutant emissions.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2019

This document has for aim to introduce the new Stage V and ROHS2 regulations mandatory as from 2019, the changes and dates linked to these new standards.

What is the ROHS 2 directive (2011/65/UE Regulation)?

The purpose of the ROHS 2 directive is to reduce the use of certain dangerous substances of electric or electronic materials on the European market.

Following this directive, 10 substances are subjected to restrictions such as Lead (0.1%); Mercury (0.1%); Cadmium (0.01%); hexavalent chromium (0.1%), etc…

Since the 23th of July 2019, the ROHS 2 directive is mandatory. Each component need to be compliant in order for generating sets to be compliant to this directive.

Generating sets concerned with the RoHS 2 directive:

− All mobile generating sets (Portable gensets included) for the European Union market.

− Stationary generating sets with a power below ≤ 375 kWe for the European Union market.

Generating sets not concerned by the RoHS 2 directive (Exemption under stationary industrial large materials)

− Stationary generating sets with a power above 375 kWe.

− Stationary generating sets with a cumulative power above 375 kWe.

− Stationary generating sets in ISO containers above 20 feet.

What is the Stage V directive (2016/1628 EU Regulation)?

Stage V regulation, as a continuation of Stage III A, has for aim to reduce pollutant emissions of all off-road mobile motorized equipment in the European Union market, especially mobile generating sets.

Therefore, all engines with no power limit designed for a European Union use and manufactured as from 01/01/2019 need to be certified Stage V except for powers between 56-130kW which deadline is 01/01/2020.

Warning, the requested technologies to reach the Stage V requirements will have an impact on thedimensions and prices of Rental generating sets.

Transition period

We are authorized to sell until 31/12/2020 generating sets fitted with the previous engine generation (Stage IIIA or not certified if engine power < 18 kW or > 560 kW) but manufactured before 31/12/2018. Exception for powers between 56-130kW which deadline is 31/12/2021 but manufactured with Stage III A engines before 31/12/2019.

Since 23/07/2019 each Stage V or Stage IIIA generating set need to be RoHS 2 compliant.

Regulations integration schedule

In brief :

− As from 01/01/2021 all mobile generating sets sold in Europe will need to be Stage V compliant, except for powers between 56-130kW which deadline is 01/01/2022.

− Before these dates you will still have the possibility to sell Stage III A or not certified if engine power < 18 kW or > 560 kW generating sets fitted with engines manufactured before 31/12/2018 (or before 31/12/2019 for powers between 56-130 kW)

− Since 23/07/2019, all mobile not certified (if engine power < 18 kW or > 560 kW), Stage III A or Stage V generating sets (or stationary below ≤ 375 kW) sold in Europe need to be RoHS 2 compliant.
