A 13,000 kVA power plant has just been installed at the Baghdad Mall, the largest commercial complex ever constructed in Iraq.
Iraq's largest mall has just opened its doors, powered by a KOHLER-SDMO plant. Composed of 4 x 3,300 kVA generating sets, the installation is the fruit of a collaboration between personnel from SDMO Industries and its local distributor, EREL.Located in the centre of Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq, the Baghdad Mall project covers some 80,000m². It incorporates:
- A shopping centre consisting of a supermarket and 150 shops;
- A 5-star hotel over 33 floors, offering 243 bedrooms;
- A medical centre consisting of 30 surgeries, pharmacies, analytical laboratories, x-ray clinics and a hospital, together covering nearly 10,000m²;
- A car park for up to 675 vehicles.
This flagship project was officially completed on 28 August 2017, after 3 years of construction, during a ceremony attended by the prime minister, Haider al-Abadi. The occasion was shared by thousands of Iraqis, especially the younger generations. It marks a further symbolic and very tangible step in the reconstruction of a country so deeply affected by the consequences of years of war, just two months after the fall of ISIS in Mosul.
